Pepper: He won’t even be able to UNDERSTAND you. He doesn’t have magic.
Charlie glares at Pepper through the mirror as she turns to retrieve a notebook and pen. She looks over her shoulder, back at her.
Charlie: I don’t know what you’re talking about. I just have to go to the bathroom.
Pepper: With a NOTEBOOK?
Charlie covers her eyes.
Charlie: I’m not listening! Goodbye!
She rushes out of the room, accidentally slamming the door behind her. Avery puts her hands on her hips.
Avery: Well, now I’m not going to be able to sleep!
Oh… So magic is why everyone understands signing without being taught? I don’t know if that was mentioned before, but it certainly adds up.
Yes, it was mentioned really early on in a throwaway line. It’s also easier for Charlie to read lips when the person speaking has magic. And it’s why Hyacinth and some of the other adults aren’t able to understand her at all.
